The Bike Club’s trip to Witton Park in Blackburn

Saturday 31st January 2015

Despite it being a very cold January morning, a group from FreshFields Bike Club visited Blackburn’s Witton Park to meet with the Young Weavers project for a Thank you & Handover ceremony.

The Young Weavers aims to get kids out on bicycles, it was inspired by Kevin Riddehough. Kevin’s wife, Vicky, suggested they ask for donations of bikes through the media & the response was fantastic. However, some of the bikes weren’t suitable for the Young Weavers so Kevin contacted FreshFields, knowing a little bit about our Bike Club and we arranged to collect the bikes for the Bike Club’s use, from Blackburn’s TransDev Bus headquarters, who’d kindly offered to store the bikes.

Councillor Maureen Bateson MBE thanked everyone for coming along & said how fantastic it was to see projects working together for such a good cause, committed to making cycling available to everyone.

Photographs were taken for the press and a beautiful Raleigh bike was on show and donated to FreshFields Bike Club. Despite the cold, everyone enjoyed themselves and a huge thank you to Kevin & Vicky and everyone involved in the Young Weavers project. Young Weavers operate from Witton Park cycle track.
