We had a very special visit from Lancashire County Disabled People’s Champion Councilor Gareth Molineux today, he came to see some of the new woodworking activities taking place with our Service Users. We’ve called it The Tool-shed project and we’re working on small items such as Garden Planters and Bird Boxes as well as attempting to up-cycle small items of wooden furniture which hopefully we can then offer for sale. And of course all sales help towards the cost of running the service.
Councilor Molineux in his role as Lancashire County Council’s Disabled People’s Champion is able to award financial help to help fund activities disabled people can take part in and enjoy. He awarded us a some funding which we have used to help set up the Tool-Shed project; this is basic wood work activities which will help our Service Users gain valuable skills and have fun at the same time.
We have also requested help through the press for donations of unwanted tools. The people of Burnley are amazing when it comes to supporting people who need a bit of help, we’ve been given tools which have been in sheds and cupboards and which now are being used again to help people gain skills and enjoy a different activity. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped us by donating tools and other items. The wood-work activity is already proving to be very popular with our Service Users.
